DOK Leipzig, Documentary Film Festival

A festival with a great selection of documentaries from around the world.
Program: http://www.dok-leipzig.de/festival/festival-news

From the films I watched I can highly recommend When Bubbles Burst by Hans Petter Moland, one of the best resumés and explanations of the financial crisis I have seen so far. A real in depth analysis, uncovering the structures and systems that lie behind a construction that caused reverberations around the planet when it collapsed. You can watch the trailer here: (><). It's an absolute Must See.
Another find I was very happy about is the director Richard Cohn-Vossen, a widely unknown director from the former German Democratic Republic, who made several documentaries for the DEFA (><), and absolutely amazed me with the subtlety with which he bypassed censorship, compromising in the least possible way. Unfortunately his films were only very seldomly shown in the GDR and completely banned at the end of the 1970's. Richard Cohn-Vossen left the GDR in 1979 as a consquence of having signed the letter against Wolf Biermann's expatriation.
